Crete Gymnastics Club

Jong Kaitlyn gee groot tree in SA Republikein 26.07.2011

Sy is tans in graad 0 in Windhoek Gimnasium Pre-primêr.

Haar puntetellings was as volg: sprong – 8,45; rekstok – 7,65; balk – 7,10; vloer – 7,70. Die byeenkoms in Pretoria vir Vlak 4 en hoër vind later vanjaar plaas

Boys get their deserved “time”

Beginning of March Crete invited Florian Bau, a former German Gymnast, who was in Namibia as a teacher in Doebra, to assist us in a Training Course for Boys, which was aimed at Coaches’ Development.
In the last 7 years we have tried to improve our knowledge in the Men’s Artistic Section, but always ended up in front of closed doors.
The opportunity to utilize Florian arose, as he was practicing in our Club since last year June approximately.
As most of you know—there is never a dull moment at Crete.  Needless to say, this event was no different…  As Florian was trying to explain a basic swing on Rings, the material snapped and Florian came tumbling down with quite a velocity.  Obviously these were fixed again, but in general we all understood the explanation for a basic swing…
Florian had organized some equipment from the Doebra School, which we received as a Gift.  We thank the School for their contribution.
Crete is proud to say that this was the first step of many, which will improve the Boys section at Crete tremendously.

CRETE COACHING IMPROVES
Louis Fourie from South Africa, who has assisted not only Crete, but also the Namibian Gymnastics Federation gave a Premilimenary FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) Level 1 Coaching Course, which was held at Crete.
Six of our Coaches attend this Course and prepared for the actual FIG Level 1 Coaching Course, which is to be held in 2012.  This ranking of Coaching is Internationally renowned and will improve our Coaching Standard by a whole lot.
Crete would like to thank
Celia Brandt, who supplied the Course Members with snacks throughout the Course—thank you Celia, the food was great.
The exposure was fantastic and in doing this Course candidates are prepared on what to expect next year.

Squad Selection 2011

In February the Girls Pre-Junior, Junior and Senior Squad was selected.  These Gymnasts will be recruited on a long-term development plan to stand a chance to participate in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games.

Congratulations to the Pre-Juniors: Natascha Pfaender, Christel Thirion and Danelle Steenkamp.

The Junior Team: Danelle Hoffman, Rachel Finch, Lize-Marie` Liebenberg and Annette van Staden.

And the Senior Team: Nadine Jaeger, Jessica Jaeger, Kira Bezuidenhout, Cecile Brandt and Danelle Lewin.

Crete has created their own Boys Squad, who will be handled in the same manner as the Girls Teams.  These gymnasts are the following: Benton-Steele Botes, Piet Liebenberg, CJ Bezuidenhout, Oliver Roeder, Jadie Mostert and Christopher Jansen.

Congratulations to all and  Good Luck for the  upcoming Testings!

COACHES CAN...

On the 9th of April 2011 Crete hosted a Coaches Competition, which was launched in order to raise money for the Club’s Gymnasts who will be participating in International Training Camps and/or Competitions.
The vent was a huge success and obviously loads of fun for both Coaches and Gymnasts—not to leave out the spectators.
The Marks spoke for themselves—we still have what it takes and the Winners in the two categories were as follows:
Under 45 years:  Ruan Swiegelaar—CRETE
60 years and over:  Vasil Bogdan—EXCELSIOR
Yes, we invited all Namibian Gymnastics Clubs, but unfortunately only Excelsior could join the Party.
All in all we raised approx. N$5000.00!  A big THANK YOU to all who made this event possible and created the success it was!

1st Trimester Incentives—great results

Oh, did we have fun this Trimester!

The Butterflies and flowers and the Spiders and Ants were quite beautiful to look at, but when you looked closer you would see that there were quite a few hard targets to achieve…

Considering the high expectations the gymnasts did exceptionally well and most achieved their goals!

Crete is proud of all of you and the Prize giving for all who achieved their Incentives will be done on the Parent Days scheduled, 23rd and 24th of May 2011.

Look out for the new Incentives!  We can’t wait to help you achieve your goals again!

RSA here we come...

On the weekends of 3/4 June 2011 and 9/10 September Crete has the opportunity to participate in an Invitational Competition at Tukkies University.
Especially the first competition for Level 1-3 is welcomed, as this will give all our gymnasts a chance to participate, even if they are under-aged for Namibian Competitions.
The 2nd Competition for Levels 4 and up in September is seen as a good competition to evaluate the exercises for the upcoming Namibian Nationals.
We will advise on costs involved at the end of April as we are still in the process
of collecting Prices and trying to get Sponsors for some of the expenses.

Floor is a floor is a floor—not for us...

Till November 2010 Crete had the “normal” floor consisting of little mats only—these were our all until a very special person in our midst made the seemingly impossible, possible!

Thanks to Mrs. Wiese Crete now has a brand new Olympic Standard Spring Floor!

This piece of equipment is essential for us to improve on our Floor Exercises, but also for the “little people”, our Fun Gym section this luxury has proven to be essential.

Ongoing we will improve our equipment as the needs arise, but 2011 couldn’t start on e better note!

Thanks MOM—You are the Best!

Our Own Hall

One of these dreams, which seems to be closer than ever, is the possibility of having our own Hall!
We live, breath, eat and sleep this dream, so we thought we’ll share it with you, because, we believe “A DREAM CAN BECOME REALITY IF YOU SHARE IT WITH PEOPLE WHO DARE TO DREAM WITH YOU”, so this is the idea…
We want to build the perfect Gymnastics Hall, which will be one of a kind in Namibia.  It should be of such a nature, that International Standard Competitions could be hosted there.

Once the basic plan is done, we will add-on a gymnastics library, a play-den for toddlers, a coffee shop, a sauna, offices, and different divisions for practice purposes, like a warm-up area, a ballet area, a trampoline area, etc.

The Hall will be equipped with only the best equipment available, as well as the newest safety measures, to make practice fun and care-free, without the high possibility of injuries.

If this is not the greatest dream ever—I don’t know what is...Check out the provisional Plan and let’s make this dream a reality!
